Professional Broker Profile - Kirby Parsons
from Broker-Agent MagazineMy Background
I have over 30 years of experience in residential real estate including 20+ years as a licensed real estate broker. I also actively support the real estate profession, having served as President of the Austin Board of Realtors, Chairman of the Austin MLS, and Chair of the Austin Board's Bylaws Committee. In 2000, I was voted Realtor of the Year by the Austin Board of Realtors, and in 2006 received the Austin Board Chairman's Award. I also served as a Director for the National Association of Realtors and Chaired the Texas Association of Realtor's Grievance Committee. I am responsible for over 40 agents and staff at Coldwell Banker United's 183 office in suburban Northwest Austin. I currently serve on the Austin Board's Risk Reduction Task Force. On the State level, I am a member of the Texas Association of Realtor's Professional Standards Committee.
I grew up North of Austin in Georgetown, and after majoring in Business at the University of Texas I moved to Houston, working in Personnel Management. I got my real estate license in 1976, and returned to Austin in 1979 as a residential agent with McLester & Grisham, Realtors. In 1980 I took the position of new home Sales Manager for them. I became the Sales Manager of the office in 1982; a year later the company was acquired by the Henry S. Miller Company. I remained as Sales Manager through two other acquisitions, by Coldwell Banker United in 2001 then most recently by the Coldwell Banker brokerage (the parent company) in April 2015.
I hold two professional designations. GRI: Graduate of the Real Estate Institute as well as CRB: Certified Real Estate Broker.
Personal Info
I live in Austin with my wife, Mary, and we are active in community service. I am in my eleventh year of support for the American Cancer Society and my ninth year of involvement with The Missy Project; a non-profit organization dedicated to raising community awareness and funds for the benefit of brain aneurysm research. Our son, Shawn, graduated with a Finance Degree from the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M, and is a successful Financial Advisor here in Austin with Edward Jones Investment Services.
My Management Style and Philosophy
Not being a micro-manager, I approach things more globally. In other words, I will sometimes say to an agent "Here is the idea I want you to convey, and why; how you say it is up to you." I have found that it is better for an agent to understand a concept, and present it in a way that compliments their personality. I believe in supplying the agents with a steady stream of the latest market information, to position them with their clients and sphere as the primary source of real estate information. Above all I believe in high ethical standards, fairness and a family atmosphere. Ethics is an absolute must in our industry. Fairness is essential to establish trust in an office. Lastly, I look for agents who have a good work ethic, who want to be a productive part of a team, and participate in a supportive environment.
